Morgantown NOW’s (MNOW) purpose is to take action through intersectional grassroots activism to promote feminist ideals, lead societal change, eliminate discrimination, and achieve and protect the equal rights of all women and girls in all aspects of social, political, and economic life in Monongalia County, WV.
Morgantown NOW (MNOW) stands for racial justice and rejects racism in all its forms. We practice intersectional feminism, meaning we strive to understand and counteract the compounded effects of oppressive forces in our society, including but not limited to sexism, racism, ableism, homophobia and transphobia. It is our role as a grassroots feminist organization to stand together and actively practice anti-racism, including when systemic racism is identified within our own communities and organizations. We refuse to partner, promote, or affiliate with any organization or individual that does not share and practice these values.
While acknowledging that the history of feminism and NOW is long and complicated, we recognize the mistakes of our predecessors and commit to learning from their work in order to achieve greater equality. MNOW also recognizes that we are all growing and learning in our journeys, and will strive as an organization to provide education and reinforcement of these principles within all of our activities.
We call on all feminists and feminist organizations within WV and beyond to not just embrace our diversity but to actively work to make a more just world for the many different populations that make up our movement.
